Marketplace Rules

Last updated November 6, 2026

Real surplus. Real quantities. Real prices. These rules are part of our Terms. Breaking them can get your listing pulled or your account closed.

What you can list

  • Leftover construction material: lumber, block, drywall, tile, flooring, roofing, pipe, wire, fixtures and the like.
  • Equipment you own: for sale or rent.
  • Unused safety gear and site supplies.
  • One specific lot at a time, with a real quantity and a real price, or free.

Anyone can list their own surplus. Suppliers, dealers and service companies are welcome as advertisers once ads open, not through free listings.

What you can't list

  • Hand tools and power tools.
  • Hazardous material: asbestos-containing material, lead paint, contaminated soil or fill, explosives, restricted-use pesticides, fuel and chemicals, loose refrigerant in cylinders, and anything that needs a permit or license to transfer.
  • Burned wire.
  • Stolen, counterfeit or recalled goods, and anything you don't have the right to sell.
  • Used fall-arrest gear and unmarked imported drywall.
  • Weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and anything illegal to sell where you are.
  • Services: trucking, hauling, demolition, labor, estimating and the like.
  • New retail stock and catalog inventory. If you sell it every day, it isn't surplus.
  • Ads posing as listings: outside links, "call for pricing," "visit our store."
  • Non-construction goods: vehicles, furniture, electronics, household items.
  • Bidding or auctions. Set a price or take offers.
  • Misleading or duplicate listings. Mark items sold when they're gone.

Offcut doesn't handle payment, delivery or disputes. Check everything before you pay or load, and settle pickup in Offcut messages so there's a record. Read the pickup safety guide.

How listings are reviewed

Offcut uses automated systems, which may include AI, to screen listings, messages and profiles. Screening can miss things and can get things wrong. It is not an inspection, and a live listing isn't approved by Offcut. We work to take down anything flagged as stolen or prohibited.

Reporting and blocking

Every listing, message and profile has a Report option. A reported item may be hidden while it's checked. We work to act on reports within 24 hours. We don't tell the other user who reported them unless the law requires it. You can also block any user from their profile.

Think something is stolen? Report it in the app or email info@useoffcut.com, then call your local police. If someone is in danger, call 911 first.

When rules are broken

  • Content that breaks the rules is removed. Some is blocked before it posts.
  • Accounts may be limited or suspended, automatically, when content is flagged or reported.
  • Scams, stolen goods, harassment, and anything dangerous or illegal can mean a permanent ban, without refund of any advertising fees.
  • We may share information with police when the law requires it or to protect people.
  • Think we got it wrong? Email info@useoffcut.com and ask for a review.

Changes and questions

We'll update these rules as Offcut grows and change the date above. If you keep using Offcut after a change takes effect, the new version applies. Not sure if something belongs? Email info@useoffcut.com before you post it.
