Offcut ("Offcut," "we," "us") is a marketplace that helps construction professionals buy and sell surplus materials, equipment, and services. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Offcut is based in Florida, USA.
Information you give us
- Waitlist & contact: your name, email address, company/organization, role, and general area (city/state) when you join our waitlist or contact us.
- Account: when accounts are available, your name, company, phone (optional), and city/state.
- Listings: the details, descriptions, prices, quantities, locations, and photos you post.
- Messages: the content of messages you send to other users through Offcut.
- Verification: if you request a "Verified" badge, the contractor license information you submit so we can confirm it.
Information we collect automatically
Basic technical information needed to run the service — such as device/browser type and general usage — and essential cookies that keep you signed in. We keep this minimal and do not use it to build advertising profiles of you.
How we use your information
- To operate the marketplace and connect buyers and sellers.
- To verify contractors and maintain trust and safety (reviewing reports, preventing fraud/abuse).
- To communicate with you — launch updates you asked for, and service messages like new-message notifications.
- To improve Offcut.
How your information is shared
- With other users: your listings and public profile are visible to other users, and the messages you send are shared with the person you message.
- With service providers who help us run Offcut — for example our database/hosting and email providers — under agreements that limit their use of your information.
- For legal and safety reasons when required by law or to protect users.
We do not sell your personal information. Offcut also does not process payments and is not part of the money exchange between users, so we do not collect or store your card or bank details.
Messages and content
To keep the community safe and help resolve disputes, we store messages and listing content and may review them when needed for safety, moderation, or legal reasons. Keep sensitive personal or financial details out of messages.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account or listings are active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. You can ask us to delete your information (see below).
Your choices and rights
- Access, correct, or delete your information by emailing us.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us.
- Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have additional rights over your data; contact us to exercise them.
Security
We protect your information with measures like encrypted connections and database-level access controls. No online service can be 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your data and limit access to it.
Children
Offcut is intended for construction professionals and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Offcut grows. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide additional notice.
